DF95 is the Most Popular Sailboat at WVRCM

Concerned about turnout at recent regattas and weekly sailing, we surveyed the club’s 55 members and received 19 responses: four scale, 15 sail. While the main purpose of the survey was to take the temperature of the sailing members, it was interesting to see that the scale members say they’ve attended more than six of the monthly meetings during the last year.

Probably the most interesting result of the survey was the information on what boats members have and like most. The 15 sail respondents said they all have DF95s, six have SeaWinds, three Micro Magics, and two Victorias.

Which do they most like to sail? DF95 93%.

The most scattered response came when we asked about the weekly open sailing. Some 60% said they never sail then or only on a handful of days.

Why don’t they sail more often during those casual sailing days? The most common answer was that they had conflicts that prevented it. They said that changing the day wouldn’t help.

The survey was done before we tried out “Lake Gary” in Surprise, but even then the idea of the Surprise pond showed a lot of appeal.

And what about regattas? How many had they attended in the last year? 36% said none, 36% 1-3, and 29% more than three. Why not more? Again, conflicts popped to the top of the reasons, but also several people expressed concern about competing in a bigger group.

Still, most think there are about the right number of regattas available during the year.
